The Plugins: No, not a story about an oddly named family. This is an anthology of short stories about the ‘Neural Transistor‘. This is the microscopic cell sized device that connects to the nervous system, and is the basis of the nanotechnology used in Girl Electric. It can be used to block (or create) signals between the brain, and the rest of the body. For instance to block pain signals from reaching the brain, or to send impulses to the muscles to make the body move. This is something actively being researched by many people, if/when this becomes available, there will be a lot of possible uses (and horrors) that will arise.
